Excerpt Reveal~ Blurry by Carina Adams
Cecelia Merrill was used to being on her own. Lost and lonely, Lia couldnāt wait to graduate and watch her judgmental little town fade behind her. All she had to do was survive three more years of high school, and she was free. She wouldnāt let anything hold her back.
Craig Knightly had almost achieved what no one in his family had before ā all he had to do was complete his student-teaching assignment, and in less than a year, he would have a college degree. He was ready to put down roots and start his life. Nothing was going to stand in the way of his dreams.
Sometimes all it takes is a moment for everything to change.
A student and her teacher. A coach and his athlete. An unexpected friendship. Forbidden feelings between an unlikely pair.
Neither is playing a game they can win.

āGround
rules. You feel up to making them now?ā She nodded. I rubbed my palms on my
sweats. āYou start.ā
āOne:
Whatever
we talk about, whatever I tell you, whatever you tell me, stays between us. I
donāt share with my friends. You donāt share with yours.ā
I
didnāt even hesitate when it was my turn. āTwo: We acknowledge
that weāre attracted to each other and then never talk about it again.ā
The
smirk I loved made an appearance. āThatās your ground rule?ā The admonishment
in her voice was almost laughable. āWhatever.ā She rolled her eyes. āFine. I
think youāre hot. Until you talk. Then you just bug me.ā I laughed, but she
continued, āThree: Our significant others come first. We donāt blow them off to
spend time with each other.ā
āYou
have a boyfriend I donāt know about?ā The words came out before I could stop
them, and I could tell by the irritated look on her face that I hadnāt hidden the jealous tone. āHave someone in
mind?ā I asked, my voice a little more even.
āNot
yet,ā she snapped. āBut, when I do, I wonāt be blowing off weekend plans with
him to stay home and take care of you. You need to put Whitney first. Iāll
understand. When itās my turn, youāll understand.ā
āSpeaking
of, we donāt talk about them. Whitney and your mystery guy.ā
āEver?
How is that a good rule?ā she demanded, scowling. āNo. Four: We can talk about
whoever weāre dating, but we canāt complain.ā
āYou
canāt change my rule.ā
āI
didnāt change it. I simply used my turn to overrule yours.ā
āYou
made two rules. If you make two, I get two.ā
āYou
are such a pain.ā She sighed dramatically. āGo ahead, make two.ā
āSex,ā
she interrupted. āWe never talk about sex. I canāt think of anything else.ā
āSex,ā
I agreed. āFive: We never talk about sex. I mean it.ā
She
lifted a shoulder in a half-shrug.
āThatās all you, buddy. Iām not the one who has a girlfriend.ā
āWhen
you do, we donāt talk about it.ā
āNot
a problem. Girls are pretty and all, but theyāre not my thing,ā Lia sassed, completely undaunted as if this was the rule she wasnāt taking seriously.
āThatās one. Whatās your next rule?ā
Needing
to make sure she understood this, above all else, was the one we needed to
follow, I clasped my hands and leaned forward. I didnāt need to say anything,
just gave her a pointed look. She knew me well enough to understand I was
getting agitated.
āIsnāt
this against your rules? Weāre talking about it right now.ā
āLia,ā
I growled in warning. I knew her just as well as she knew me. āNot talking
about it means you donāt ask questions. You donāt ask my opinion. You donāt
tell me one tiny detail simply because you insist itās something I have to know.ā
āGood
God! This entire conversation is embarrassing. Iām not going to have sex, but
if I do, I swear to all that is holy that I will not mention it to you!ā The
blush crept up her cheeks as she threw her hands in the air annoyed. She was
too fucking cute.
