Synopsis

Jesse I admit, I didn’t think much of Charlie at first. She was rounder than the girls who usually caught my eye. Not my type. But when I saw her sitting in that booth alone, for the first time something in my mind or my instincts or my heart told me to join her. She defied me. She challenged me. She gave me hope. Before I knew it, moving forward was my only option. Charlie I couldn’t tell you when it happened, but it had to have been a gradual change; I never moved too quickly. If someone would have told me earlier that year what I was going to go through, I wouldn't have believed them. Jesse was so different from anyone I’d met before. And everyone I’ve met since. He sucked all the life out of me, in the best—and worst—ways. We don’t get strong overnight. For most of us it takes time. Strength isn’t measured by how high and fast our walls go up, but how easily we can watch them fall.

Pain, self hatred living with the thought that you are worthless are all manifestations of what has happened to you on the past. What you have had to endure at the hands of others. Words are hurtful, Charlie has lived with the sting of words her whole life and when someone that she finds attractive pays her attention, well her body and mind go into a tail spin.
Jess suffers with a mental disorder after having to deal with a trauma that caused hi mind to break. Now blunt and to the point he says what he thinks with out regard for who he hurts. When meets Charlie his attraction to her is more than he can handle. He needs her, but he hurts her by denying it.
Love hurts.
This book is about the progress of oneself. Building yourself up or breaking down. The progress of self realization that you have found some thing that makes you happy or that you have to leave the one that brings you down. It is all a progress of ones self.
Amalie tackles some really hard subjects in this book, charlie has suffered for the better part of her life with bad body image ruling her world but when she meets Jess she now has to tackle his mood swings. His highs and lows are things that I can relate to . Living with some one that switches from one mood to another with out so much as a warning is exhausting and will drain you. I relate to the strength she has to make the decisions she makes.
I can empathize with Jess as well living with the thought that the one person that makes you feel good might leave you is also a reality that I can relate to... Fear.
An amazing way to bring those emotions out, this story is brutally honest and left an impression on my heart. It was perfect. A look into a minds that are less than perfect, giving us a glimpse into that manic love.
