The Refrain Blog Tour

Their paths have crossed, setting the refrain in motion.

Ever since flannel and Doc Martens were considered edgy fashion, Canadian cousins Natalie and Chloe have dreamt of a life in New York City. But now that theyā€™ve finally scored a Manhattan zip code, their teenaged fantasies are overshadowed by an adult reality. With Natalie struggling to accept a long-distance relationshipā€”and her constant battle with loneliness, her survival depends on Zachā€™s safe return. And with Chloeā€™s endless need to find balance and purposeā€”and her embarrassing secret holding her back, can Adam Ford be the one to understand her completely?

Change is inevitable and fate is insisting. And when panic follows crisis and love is questioned, stories can change in unexpected ways. The narrative becomes the verse, the part to the wholeā€”the story within the story.

Amazingly Beautiful!
This book was a breath of fresh air, the writing is unlike anything I have read... And I loved it!
I was completely sucked and became the characters. I especially felt the emotion that was inside of Chloe. Her and Zack's story really touched my heart. The love they have for each other is so strong but sadly realized through a distance that make the love even more beautiful and strong. Natalie and Adam were the rock in this story because you just know, you know that they both feel like they are it for each other. Both loves Amazingly beautiful.
This series is filled with a a realization of worth and how tied we really are to fate. And sometimes fate is a fucking bitch! It gives and takes knowing what we need but not preparing your heart for that truth. Because Fate knows who you are to truly be with and what it will take for you to find them.  How close we come to crossing paths with the one that we are meant to be with but weren't ready for until it you are. Why the long wait? Why? Well because fate knows better than we do about timing. Because timing is everything!  That is when the music in your soul will be everything you wanted and ring true and clear with every heart beat. That is what I took away from this powerful story of 2 cousins finding their way in life and in love. The Refrain is simply AMAZING!

Slamming her hand against the keys to the piano, Chloe shouts, ā€œWho is she?ā€

ā€œThe client is a forty-seven year old man.ā€
ā€œNot the client, who are you fucking?ā€ Chloe demands, her voice deep and raw.
Adam takes two steps closer, glaring down at Chloeā€™s pitiful face. ā€œIā€™m not fucking anyone.  Not even my wife,ā€ he snarls.  Itā€™s the answer Chloe needs to hear, but not the one she wants.
She moves a step closer and pokes his chest. ā€œThen explain this to me.ā€
ā€œExplain what?ā€
ā€œThisā€”this tension.  Why donā€™t I trust you?  Why am I so angryā€”where the fuck have you been?ā€  Chloeā€™s voice is dry and emotional, the words stinging her throat and falling from her mouth like hot embers. She punches his arm, hits his chest, and slaps at his smug expression.
Adam grabs her arms, his fingers digging into her flesh, but Chloe fights him. ā€œStop it,ā€ he says.  Chloe continues to wave her arms, desperately trying to break herself free.  Adam tightens his grip and twists her arm behind her back, controlling herā€¦controlling her behavior.  ā€œI have a career.  Do you understand that?  Iā€™m working, Iā€™m being a provider, Iā€™m being a dadā€”doing the right thing.ā€
With as much contempt as she can gather, she shouts, ā€œThe right thing?  The right thingā€”your life is just one blob of obligation now?  Fuck you, Adam.  Always trying to be perfectā€”always doing the right thing.  We wouldnā€™t want anyone to know what you really are!ā€
ā€œWhat does that mean?ā€  Adam eases his grip, upset by her threat.
ā€œYouā€™re a wall.ā€  Chloe yanks her arms free and shoves Adamā€™s chest.  ā€œA fucking brick wallā€”no emotion and no attachment to anything that doesnā€™t fit your definition of right or wrong.  Iā€™m sick of it!ā€ Chloeā€™s voice is shaky and inaudible, tears suddenly drowning her words.
ā€œReally?ā€  He smirks.  ā€œYou need me.  You need me to be your wallā€”you need an excuse to be destructive.  But then when you need that brick wall again, whoā€™s supposed to build it?ā€
Chloe grits her teeth and holds her breath, rage setting in.  ā€œYouā€™re a fucking asshole.  God, youā€™re so arrogantā€”fuck you.ā€  Chloe shoves past Adam, running straight to the front door.  She hesitates momentarily to study her bare feet but then impulsively decides to run out into the summer rain.  She wants to run away, she wants to feel that sense of purpose again.  Adam follows behind her, shouting her name.  Heā€™s enraged and bewilderedā€”this is why he loves herā€”this is why she needs him.
ā€œChloe stop.ā€  Adam catches up to her and grabs her hand, yanking her in his direction.  The raindrops conceal her tears, thereā€™s no end to one and a beginning of anotherā€”no separation of pain and passion.  Possibly the secret to any great romanceā€¦passion evolves from pain.
Adam takes Chloe in his arms and forces her against the large maple tree.  The fullness of the branches protects them from the rain, but their emotions are completely exposed and unrefined.
Chloe sobs, jerking her hand from his tight grasp.  ā€œLeave me alone.ā€
ā€œNo,ā€ he responds.
Adam pins her against the tree, slamming his hands above her shoulders.  They stare into each otherā€™s eyesā€”carnal lust brimming with each sensation, old and newā€¦this is one of those moments.  Chloeā€™s chest rises and falls.  Rain splatters against the tree.  Adamā€™s lips quiver with need.  Eyes wander over familiar features.  Drip dropā€”itā€™s rhythm.
And then, associating pain with passion, Chloe bites Adamā€™s lower lipā€”sucking and licking the delicate, rain-kissed skin.  Adamā€™s hand moves to her neck, squeezing gently to signify his control.  He kisses her, deep and satisfying, absorbing every last drop of painful doubt from her mind.  Chloeā€™s arms move to his shoulders, graspingā€¦searchingā€¦
Words are meaningless.  Words are breathless.
ā€œAdam.ā€
Adam releases his hold, but not his authority.  In a hasty, yet sensual effort, he lifts Chloe into his armsā€”positioning one arm under her legs and the other tightly around her back.
ā€œShut up.ā€ He commands with a smile.
And just like Rhett Butler seizing Scarlett Oā€™Hara with passionate fury, Adam reclaims Chloe. Under the pouring rain.  Up the steps of the ironed stoop.  Through the door of their centuries-old brownstone.  Dripping wet.  Hearts racing.  Souls connecting.
ā€¦and then he slams the door.
