EXCERPT:
Walking up the twisting staircase, we head into Coach Bartleyā€™s home full of men accompanied by beautiful women drinking and talking over loud music. Theoā€™s hand finds the small of my back as he weaves us under the dim lighting through the foyer and into the kitchen.
ā€œYou look great tonight, Quinn.ā€ His words are soft and warm as he brushes past me, leading the way. ā€œThat purple dress you have on really makes your eyes pop.ā€
ā€œThanks,ā€ I reply.
I glance at my reflection in the floor to ceiling windows and admire my strappy nude heels and purple bustier dress. I love the way the padded bust and structured silhouette flatters my body in all the right places.
My entire body stiffens, when his familiar warmth surrounds me, his hands finding my hips. ā€œNice dress.ā€
Theo turns around with a scowl on his face and stares Cash up and down. He holds out his hand and they embrace in a firm shake. ā€œGreat game tonight, Brooks. Can I get you something? Like a drink?ā€
ā€œSoda water and lime,ā€ Cash says, his finger creeping along the back of my thigh and up to the hem of my dress. ā€œWould you like anything, Quinn?ā€ The calm possession in his voice alarms the hell out of me. I can barely let out a breath, never mind speak with his hand cupped around my ass.
Theo locks eyes with me and waits for my response, oblivious to Cashā€™s wandering hands.
ā€œSure,ā€ I say, letting out the breath Iā€™ve been holding.
ā€œTell him what you want,ā€ Cash whispers against my ear.
My body trembles from the warmth of his breath. ā€œA water, please.ā€
Theo nods. ā€œQuinn, come with me to get the drinks?ā€ But his tone is all off. Itā€™s not really a question, it more like heā€™s insisting.
ā€œNo, sheā€™ll stay here, with me.ā€ Cash is insisting too.
ā€œQuinn?ā€ Theo repeats.
ā€œIā€™m fine, Theo. Iā€™ll wait here.ā€
Theo looks at me one last time, lets out a deep breath, and then heads over to the makeshift bar set up in the great room.
When he is out of sight, I whip around. ā€œAre you crazy? This place is crawling with my colleagues.ā€
ā€œYou like it and you know it,ā€ Cash says, tucking a stray strand of hair behind my ear.
I whack his hand away. ā€œYouā€™re unbelievable.ā€
A flicker of intensity flashes in his eyes, nostrils flaring. Moving closer, his scentā€”honey and cinnamonā€”washes over me. ā€œDonā€™t pretend you didnā€™t feel something in that locker room, Mittens.ā€
ā€œYeah, I felt my dignity being ripped right out of me. And I donā€™t understand why you even care? I can already see that youā€™re onto the next,ā€ I nod over at a group of girls staring us down from the corner.
ā€œWould that bother you?ā€ He glances at the blonde girl he bench-pressed earlier today. ā€œIf I fucked her tonight instead of you?ā€
We stand there, eyeing each other up as I try not to let my real feelings for this arrogant son-of-aā€“bitch seep in.
My chest twists tightly, painfully. ā€œAlright, Brooks, I see what youā€™re trying to do here. But hereā€™s the thing, I donā€™t give a shit what you do. Women throw themselves at you constantly and you gladly fuck them. Good for you. I bet youā€™ve already nailed a whole bunch since the locker room, so whatā€™s another?ā€
He shakes his head and loosens his tie. ā€œNope. Not one.ā€
ā€œAw, how sweet. I must have made quite the impressionā€

The Book Fairy Reviews's Reviews

Second chances. Growing up. Honesty and secrets. Love. Can love overcome things from a past that threaten a future, that threaten a love?
Hockey bad boy Cash has been hiding from his past. Not doing a very good job but hiding and running have become his only way to exist. His career and woman are all he needs, until he spots a woman with white mitten at a home game.
Quinn is running from a past. Drowning herself in control and school she has honed her guilt int a controlled sense of worth. How? Well if she is studies hard she can achieve what her father has always wanted for her and she strives to make the past up to him. So coming back home to wait for her answer to that control has her at a hockey game watching the latest bad boy tear up the ice.
This book is a roller coaster of emotions. I mean I love the passion and the suspense and drama of trying to figure out the secrets in this story! what i hate is an ending that had me asking out loud"REALLY?" Cruel, Amanda just cruel.
Cash is addictive, I am hooked waiting fro my next hit of the sexy, arrogant, dirty talking hockey stud. His confusion as to what he really wants and needs from Quinn sucked me in and kept me glued to the page. EXACTLY what I look forward to in a book.
As amazing as this book is you will want to join me in asking one very important question. Amanda do we really have to wait till 2017?
